A Whole New Mind by Daniel Pink

Who could resist an introduction like this: "The last few decades have belonged to a certain kind of person with a certain kind of mind - computer programmers who could crank code, lawyers who could craft contracts, MBA's who could crunch numbers.  But the keys to the kingdom are changing hands.  The future belongs to a very different kind of person with a very different kind of mind - creators and empathizers, pattern recognizers, and meaning makers.  These people - artists, inventors, designers, storytellers, caregivers, consolers, big picture thinkers - will now reap society's richest rewards and share it's greatest joys."

blog.jpgThis book by Daniel Pink (2005) is such a life-changer that it is one of only a handful of books that didn't get Amazoned or Goodwilled during our move.  With the turn of each page I feel my resolve strengthen, my self esteem rising, my path opening.

Part One is a short primer on the left brain/right brain research we're all familiar with, and an introduction to the measure of EQ (emotional intellegence).  Did you know that within organizations the most effective leaders were funny (that is funny ha-ha not funny strange)?  So there!  HA!

Part Two outlines new six senses: Design, story, symphony (my favorite), empathy, play (okay maybe that's my favorite) and meaning (my new favorite).

It's in paperback, it's a few years old, it will change the universe.  What's not to like?
